Delimitation and attributes that characterize each element of the Inventory of Spaces of Geological Interest of Catalonia. Spaces of geological interest are places of interest, due to their unique and/or representative character, for the study and interpretation of the origin and evolution of large geological domains, including the processes that have shaped them, the climates of the past and their paleobiological evolution in a sufficiently continuous and homogeneous manner throughout its extension, one or more notable and significant characteristics of the geological heritage of a natural region, with geometric or geographical continuity of the characteristic and with the homogeneity of this in all its extension. This set of information was born in 1999 from a collaboration agreement between, at that time, the Department of the Environment of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

The information set of surfaces affected by wildfires contains the delimitation of areas affected by forest fires, considered with strong environmental impact, described by its representation in two dimensions in scale 1: 50000 and attributes that describe its semantic.

  • The dataset contains the polygons of surrounding areas of grasslands or prairies of marine phanerogams. Bounding areas are zones in the sea near the shoreline where there is known to be grassland.

  • The dataset contains the coastline of Catalonia characterized for reporting the reliability of the grasslands in the 'Herbassars or prairies of marine phanerogams' dataset. If there is not known information in a section the line is not displayed. The degrees of reliability in which the line is classified are: Very high; High; Medium; Low.

  • The dataset contains the polygons of known grasslands along the coast of Catalonia. The polygons have associated an attribute that indicates the type of community based on the species of phanerogams present: Posidonia oceanica; Cymodocea nodosa; Zostera noltii; Cymodocea nodosa i Caulerpa prolifera; Cymodocea nodosa, Zonstera noltii i Ruppia cirrhosa.

Limits of the areas of natural interest defined in Decree 328/1992, which approves the Plan of areas of natural interest (PEIN), and any subsequent modifications that may have occurred. This base includes spaces at a scale of 1:50 000 and, in some cases, 1:5 000. The PEIN establishes a network of spaces representative of the rich landscape and biodiversity of the territory of Catalonia, from high mountains to coastal plains, and from Euro-Siberian forests to semi-desert wastelands or marine spaces. The PEIN is the higher level planning instrument that structures the system of protected areas of Catalonia and integrates this system within the whole territory, as it is a sectorial territorial plan framed within the Territorial Plan of Catalonia (1995). Subsequent to its approval, specific modifications to the rules and limits have been approved by decree, as well as extensions or additions of new spaces.

Boundaries of the natural spaces of Catalonia that form part of the European Natura 2000 network. Natura 2000 is a European ecological network of areas that may have been proposed as special protection areas for birds (ZEPA) in accordance with the Directive 2009/147/CEE, also known as the Birds Directive, and/or as Special Areas of Conservation (ZEC) in accordance with Directive 92/43/CEE, also known as the Habitats Directive. In the first instance, the Government of Catalonia approves the proposal for sites of Community importance (LIC) for the Natura 2000 network of the areas of the Alpine and Mediterranean biogeographical regions. Subsequently, the European Commission adopts the conformity of this proposal and finally the Government of Catalonia declares the LICs as ZECs.
