InfoBPA GeoRSS and KML

Imatge

The structure of Avalanche Danger Bulletin (BPA) serves the information in a hierarchical manner, by levels with increasingly detailed information. InfoBPA RSS and KML feeds allow you to view the first level of information in two data formats that are automatically updated and adds the geographic dimension to the prediction of avalanche danger. This first level is a general map of the Pyrenees in Catalonia with the icons of the degree of danger for each of the seven snow forecast areas.

  • Nivoclimatic zone boundaries should be considered as a transition strip between two neighbouring areas.

The InfoBPA RSS feed is headed by a summary which includes the image of the general map and the last update time of the Bulletin. Then each of the seven areas of BPA shows its degree of danger and a brief summary of the forecast, with a link to the graphical forecast of each area. The InfoBPA RSS feed adds GeoRSS features, this allows some applications represent geographic information. All RSS aggregators can access to the InfoBPA RSS information although not having GeoRSS functionality.

The InfoBPA KML feed contains the same information of the BPA first level in KML format compatible with Google Earth and Google Maps, known as the best applications for georeferencing via the Internet. Google Earth displays over the map the seven areas of avalanche danger forecasting with an icon and a color associated with the degree of danger, with a link to the graphical forecast of each area. Google Maps does not have the functionality of areas with color but is much lighter and can be installed on almost any mobile phone or device, for computers requires only an Internet browser.
