The creation of an SDI is a common task of all public administrations, organizations and companies, both public and private, as well as professionals and citizens who want to participate. Its scope is universal, as is the Internet, although today it is necessary organizations that promote and support, at different territorial and administrative levels, the process.

Under the initiative of the different levels of public administrations, these organizations have been established throughout Europe: European infrastructure (INSPIRE), the Spanish one (IDEE) and those of other Member States, the Catalan one (IDEC) among other regional initiatives, and different local initiatives, such as in Catalonia, the IDEBarcelona (promoted by Barcelona Provincial Council), the Geoportal BCN (promoted by the BCN City Council), the IDE of Sant Cugat del Vallés and others that are in preparation.

List of Local initiatives in Catalonia:

  • IDE Lleida: IDE Lleida is an initiative of the Lleida Provincial Council to create the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) of the province of Lleida.

  • Municipal Cartography Service of the City Council of Girona: The Cartography Portal of the Girona City Council offers the own municipal cartography with online map viewers and WMS geoservices. The map server works linked to the Territorial Information System of the City Council.

  • IDE Barcelona: IDEBarcelona is an initiative of the Barcelona Provincial Council to create the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) of the province of Barcelona. The aim is to integrate, through the Internet, the geographical information that is produced both in the Provincial Council and in the province of Barcelona

  • Geoportal BCN: The Geoportal and the web services of the Spatial Data Infrastructure of the Barcelona City Council allow the municipal territorial information to be made available to the citizen through the web using the standards of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).

  • Portal AMB: Catalog of cartography of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the AMB (Metropolitan Area of ​​Barcelona).
